WHAT IS PRODUCER BOOTCAMP?
Producer Bootcamp is a deep dive into the role of a producer, and what skills & knowledge you will need to produce your own work and the work of others. Throughout this week you will be led through producing for theatre 101. Each day we cover new topics, dive deep into the hows, whats, and whys of freelance producing. If you’re an artist or early career producer who wants to gain formal knowledge of working in the arts, this is the course for you.
Some of the topics we will cover are: Project Management, Touring, Budgets, Funding Bids, Audience Development, Marketing & PR, Tour Packs, Logistics of Touring, and much more.
Producer Bootcamp will be run by SJ Watkinson. SJ is an independent theatre producer with over 30 years’ experience in a range of roles including production and touring, company management, community and participatory projects, festivals and outdoor events. She’s worked with artists and companies across the UK and Spain including Sleepwalk Collective (Madrid), Proteus Theatre Company, Atresbandes (Barcelona) and Altered Skin. She’s currently working with solo artist Natalie Bellingham and drag legend Fatt Butcher‘s new choral work, Congregational. She’s also one of In Good Company‘s Artist Support Producers providing one to one mentoring for artists and companies across the Midlands.
This course is aimed at exploring all this freelance producing in the subsidised sector and aimed for those who want to build or expand a career working in that world. You will need to bring a laptop for these sessions, and an information pack and resources will be provided.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
This course is aimed at early career producers, or self-producing artists who wish to learn more about producing as a skill. This course is suited for those wanting to learn more about producing in the subsidised performing sector.
Previous attendees include early-career artists and producers, recent graduates and theatre students, and freelancers sponsored by organisations to develop their skills. Attendees have gone on to launch their producing careers, working across the sector in producing their own work, festivals, and large scale immersive theatre projects.
