Our Dick Whittington Charity Ball is fast approaching on Thursday 27th November, right here at Barnsley Civic.

From dress code to timings, please find answers to Frequently Asked Questions below so you know exactly what to expect from this magical evening.

What time should I arrive? And what will be the order of the evening?

  • Our indoor ice skating rink will be open exclusively for guests of the ball from 6:00pm-7:00pm. This is completely optional.
  • The drinks reception will begin the evening’s festivities proper at 7:00pm, with music by Laura Kelly.
  • Food will be served at around 8:00pm, with entertainment between courses.
  • Following the fine dining experience, the Silent Auction will close and the Raffle will be drawn.
  • There will then be a performance by Uncle Hotdog.
  • Carriages will be at midnight.

What is the dress code?

Dress code is not strictly black-tie, so please do come along in what you feel most comfortable in. If you would like to dress up for the theme of Dick Whittington, please feel free!

How does a silent auction work? What can I win?

Items and experiences will be displayed in a brochure, with a starting bid. Participants will place their bids silently on paper. When the bidding period ends, the highest bidder wins and pays.

We have an array of brilliant prizes this year, with a mix of donations from local talent and organisations, and money-can’t-buy experiences and items.

Items include:

  • Private ice rink hire at our venue for up to 10 people, including popcorn and soft drinks.
  • A private dining experience with Chris Hale in your own home
  • Artwork by Civic Family member Ailish Treanor
  • A golf cap signed by US Open Winner Matt Fitzpatrick

Plus more!

Do I need to bring cash?

For raffle and silent auction entry we will have both cash and card options available to enter.

What will the money raised go towards?

For almost 150 years Barnsley Civic has been a home for creativity, community and civic good. Generations of Barnsley folk have come through our doors to be entertained, educated and inspired. All money raised helps us to:

  • Preserve our Grade II–listed building and improve public spaces to be more accessible and sustainable
  • Introduce local children to live theatre for the first time
  • Support learning-disabled and autistic adults to create original performances that share their own stories

We can’t wait to welcome you to this special evening celebrating Barnsley Civic. If you haven’t already, secure your tickets today.

We'd love to keep in touch!
