Right in the heart of Barnsley town centre, we offer versatile spaces for everything from corporate meetings and community gatherings to weddings, parties and shows. With our iconic Eldon Street entrance now reopened, you’ll experience a mix of heritage and modern facilities. We’re also easy to reach, with great transport links and parking just a five-minute walk away.

Theatre

Our Assembly Theatre is the perfect space for live events, performances and conferences. With stunning Victorian features, it offers the flexibility of retractable raked seating for up to 334 guests or delegates. When the seating is folded back, it is transformed into an open and spacious hall which can be used for trade fairs, indoor markets, large gatherings or wedding receptions with up to 250 seated guests. Included with it are dressing rooms and industry-standard lighting and sound.

We tailor pricing to suit your event, with options for Technical Support, Front of House, and Box Office services to ensure everything runs smoothly. Harvey’s Bar on The Panorama can also be open for your event, offering a great selection of drinks, with packages available.

Studio Theatre

An intimate, powerful and versatile venue with the same technical sophistication as our main theatre. Ideally suited for small scale events, performances of up to 50 people, and pre-production rehearsals.  It includes storage and quick-change area, with chairs and a projector available.

Meeting Room 1

Ideal for meetings, training workshops and community groups, Meeting Room 1 is an affordable option for up to 30 people. It can be adapted for multiple uses and seating layouts and includes TV screens and flip charts. It has an adjoining door to Meeting Room 2, and we offer a special rate if you hire both rooms together.

Meeting Room 2

Set-up in classic boardroom style for meetings of up to 12 people, with TV Screen and flip charts included. It has an annexed waiting area, so it is also perfect for interviews and auditions. Meeting Room 2 is often used as breakout space when hired with Meeting Room 1.

The Hanson Room

Situated on the ground floor with easy access via our Hanson Street entrance, The Hanson room is a popular choice for parties and celebrations for up to 45 guests, and we offer special children’s party packages. It can also be used for workshops or rehearsals and is the regular meeting place for our resident Cross the Sky Theatre group.

Celebrations and Weddings

Whether it’s a stylish cocktail party, a wedding venue with natural light and period charm, or an affordable space in town for a children’s party, we’re the perfect venue for your special events. Harvey’s Bar is available to keep your guests refreshed with a great selection of drinks and we can also offer bespoke drinks packages and catering in all our rooms.

The Old Art School

The original home of Barnsley’s School of Art, this bright, open space is flooded with natural light and boasts a vaulted ceiling and beautiful period features. With room for up to 60 people, the Old Art School can be used for classes, workshops, away days or creative activities. It is self-contained with its own entrance, toilets and small off-shoot rooms, so if you need a venue for an intimate wedding or a special celebration then look no further.

The Panorama

So named because of its floor to ceiling windows and panoramic views over Mandela Gardens. It includes Harvey’s Bar and has room for up to 100 guests to mingle, so is perfect for receptions, launches, weddings and any event that requires hospitality.

The Gallery

Our Gallery exhibitions programme showcases internationally significant works, national collections, and Yorkshire-based artists. These form the perfect backdrop and add kudos to creative events and after-hours gatherings of up to 50 people.

Tailored Spaces for Meetings, Workshops, and More

We offer a range of rooms for hire, ideal for everything from one-off meetings to regular classes, workshops, and conferences. We provide TVs for presentations, flipcharts, internet access, and optional refreshment and catering packages. Harvey’s Bar can also serve drinks, adding a special touch to your event. We offer preferential rates for long-term bookings, with day, half day and hourly options. Our larger spaces are perfect for conferences and networking events, and we can help you combine spaces that suit your needs.
