For almost 150 years Barnsley Civic has been a home for creativity, community and civic good. Generations of Barnsley folk have come through our doors to be entertained, educated and inspired. We were the home of Barnsley’s first ever public library, a British restaurant during World War 2, and the first national Women Against Pit Closure rally took place in our main theatre. We’re also a place for great nights out, Barnsley’s annual family pantomime, groundbreaking exhibitions, workshops and so much more!

We are a registered charity and as we approach our 150th anniversary, we’re inviting people to support our next chapter as Civic150 Friends. Donations help us to:
- Introduce local children to live theatre for the first time
- Support learning-disabled and autistic adults to create original performances that share their own stories
- Preserve our Grade II–listed building and improve public spaces to be more accessible and sustainable
