CIVIC150 : Get involved
Barnsley Civic has been awarded £235,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to launch CIVIC150, a two-year project working towards to the building’s 150th birthday on 25th January 2028.
The project will feature a series of public events, talks, tours, performances inspired by the memories of this beloved local landmark and there’ll be plenty of opportunities to get involved and share your Civic story.
Reconnecting with its vital social and architectural history and sharing the building’s important story with people from across the borough, CIVIC150 will also support targeted conservation and access improvements, including the repair and reinstatement of the distinctive 1877 geometric encaustic tiled floor across the entrance foyer; research to inform a revival of the building’s historic decorative scheme; and the reopening of the grand double staircase.
This project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players.
As well as working to restore historical features and reimagine the building for future generations, during Civic150 we’re inviting people to support our next chapter as Civic150 Friends. As a registered charity, your donations help us to:
- Introduce local children to live theatre for the first time
- Support learning-disabled and autistic adults to create original performances that share their own stories
- Preserve our Grade II–listed building and improve public spaces to be more accessible and sustainable
