The Sum Of Our Parts is an exhibition reflecting on the work Barnsley Civic does to connect our communities through creativity. As a non-profit arts centre and independent registered charity we use art and performance as a way to share stories, spark dialogue, and bring people together, we believe that creative expression can open up new ways of understanding.
Working collaboratively, our far-reaching engagement programme creates opportunities for people to explore their experiences, identities, and ideas through artistic practice. These shared processes not only generate new work, but also build meaningful relationships and strengthen connections across cultures, backgrounds, and generations.
We are a place where individual and collective identities are recognised and valued. At its heart, our aim is to create a safe, inclusive space where people can feel welcome, respected, and able to express themselves freely.
Through our core activities, workshops, outreach, and artist support, we work to create a platform for voices that are often underrepresented, encouraging participation, confidence, and a sense of belonging. By bringing people together through art and performance, we want to celebrate diversity, nurture creativity, and help to build stronger, more connected communities in our town.
This new exhibition will showcase some of the work produced through meaningful engagement projects, in collaboration with our diverse community members. We invite you to explore The Sum Of Our Parts and take the time to get to know Barnsley Civic and our community.
