What’s in an apology? When was the last time you said sorry… and meant it? What are you sorry, truly sorry about?

Annabel McCourt was born in Grimsby in 1975. She is a diverse artist whose work ranges from lens-based gritty social realism to installation art, moving images, and architectural interventions inspired by fact, folklore and legend.

Her latest exhibition, I’m Sorry, invites viewers to discover the power of saying sorry and truly meaning it.

I’m Sorry isn’t a passive apology from the artist; it’s an opportunity for us all as individuals; introspection for the collective good. It’s not about flippant apologies, taking the blame for something we didn’t do, or over-apologising in fear of what others think. Instead, it’s about reclaiming control and discovering self-esteem, without fear of conflict.

It’s a secret ceremony, a private point of reflection, a confession without guilt… whichever way you look at it, there is a power in saying ‘I’m Sorry’. McCourt invites you to take a pilgrimage into the safe space of I’m Sorry, a multi-sensory, transformational installation to embark on a deeply personal journey, before returning to daily life.

Exhibition dates: 23 September 2023 – 20 January 2024
