Panorama, Barnsley Civic

We are delighted to present God’s Favourite, by Emilie Rose.

Emilie Rose is a poet and analogue photographer whose creative practice explores desire, love, heartbreak and religion. Through poetry, film photography, self-portraiture, and scanner-based imagery, the artist is interested in capturing emotion, atmosphere, and the more intimate sides of lived experience. The work is shaped by personal memory, relationships, and the complicated dynamic of faith and femininity that has informed much of her perspective.

God’s Favourite follows the artist’s time spent living in Barnsley. Although not originally from Barnsley Emilie feels an immense pride in her adopted homeland. The photographs are taken from a first-person perspective, capturing moments spent with friends of intoxication and joy. For the exhibition, Emilie invites us into her most intimate space by recreating her bedroom wall, bringing together photography, poetry and ephemera to give a deeply personal snap shot of the artist’s life and inspirations.
