This special concert of live music will highlight five very different local folk acts. While this concert is in our theatre, this is a standing concert, and more akin to what you'd find in a festival tent. There will be a limited amount of seating available.

While the bar outside the theatre will be open throughout the event, we ask patrons inside the theatre to be respectful of our guest musicians, listen, don’t talk over the music and dance like good’ns.

LINE-UP: SHOON / THE HOOLIEMEN / PARSON'S LOT / SERIOUS SAM BARRETT / GLASS SHIPS

***

SHOON are a Sheffield-based folk outfit formed in 2022. Heavily influenced by the British folk revival, they play their own interpretations of mostly traditional songs along with the occasional contemporary song and self-penned number. Featuring vocalist Rebecca Hearn, Ric Booth on guitar, vocals and violin, and Johnny Griff on bass and violin.

Rebecca embraces the pure joy of singing and works across a range of projects including SHOON and solo a cappella. She sources the most interesting, creepy and unusual ballads to add to her collection.

Richard Booth and Johnny Griff are active musician in the Sheffield scene. Johnny plays bass with Ash Grey and Burners and Banjo Jen amongst many others. Ric is guitarist,, producer, and composer who currently also performs with The 20ft Squid Blues Band, ROSH, Laik, and Slow Galleys Drift.

Atmospheric, shimmering, and heart-warming, their debut EP includes three traditional songs of love, murder, and infidelity and their own Narcissus & Goldmund.

THE HOOLIEMEN are a superb four-piece acoustic traditional Irish folk band

Four very seasoned accomplished musicians who have played together for decades have now formally come together as the Hooliemen. The band are musicians of the highest calibre with a life time of performing experience.

An up tempo Irish trad band with great tunes and beautiful versions of songs you will be familiar with. Expect jigs n reels, Irish ballads, harmony and a capela vocals and sean nos (old style) dance. The band existed for a decade playing for the set dancing nights – the Hoolie – at Whitby Folk Week. They are now formally a band and not to be missed.

PARSON'S LOT return after an amazing 2026 festival set. With over a decade of experience, Parson’s Lot and their unique brand of clog-stomping fiddle-driven folk, has established a firm fan base in their home town of Barnsley and within the folk festival circuit in the North. Looking ahead, we hope to expand our folk family circle to incorporate festivals further afield.

SERIOUS SAM BARRETT is a hard touring, folk and country singer/songwriter from Otley, West Yorkshire. Playing honest, heartfelt self penned and traditional songs on 12 string guitar and banjo. Raised in the Dales village of Addingham, Sam began performing in and around Leeds in 2004, with word spreading further afield with the release of his 2009 debut album Close To Home.

Performing at SXSW in Austin, Texas in 2010, he has toured the US widely, usually in the company of friends and fellow skaters The Pine Hill Haints. Along the way, Sam has shared stages with the likes of Martin Carthy, Dave Burland, Katherine Tickell, Lucero, The Young Un's, Frank Fairfield, Deer Tick and Karine Polwart, and received airplay and praise plaudits from the BBC’s Bob Harris, Marc Riley and Mark Radcliffe as well as Mike Harding.

GLASS SHIPS are the acoustic duo of Steve Dalton and Maeve Ellis, performing a wide mix of music including Folk, Irish and even Pop. Close harmony singing, guitar, harp and shakey egg. Original songs plus singalongs and a few off-genre surprises.
