Barnsley Civic is pleased to announce a creative partnership with Public Health and the young people’s group Just Us, for their forthcoming exhibition at The Cooper Gallery.
Just Us are a passionate group of young people from Barnsley VCS organisations (Chilypep, YMCA and the Youth Association) who work with Public Health to make a positive difference to children and young people’s emotional well-being and mental health.
Barnsley Civic is leading a callout to find an artist (or artists) to work with Just Us to develop new work for their exhibition which will take place between January and April 2026.
Barnsley Civic is leading a callout to find an artist (or artists) to work with Just Us to develop new work for their exhibition which will take place between January and April 2026.
The exhibition will explore young people’s mental health and the experiences of young people today, it will promote services for children and young people around emotional well-being and mental health and will highlight some of the work Just Us have done to date around raising awareness about emotional health and wellbeing, services and building resilience and display their previously produced animation via a screen.
The attached poster has been designed by the group.
COMMITMENT & LEVEL OF PAY
- Delivery of 8 sessions with young people @ £150 per session
- The equivalent of two full days planning @ £500
- Plus a separate budget for materials.
Workshops will take place on Monday evenings at Cooper Gallery between September and December.
HOW TO APPLY
- Please respond with a cover letter explaining your initial thoughts about the project and how your work would be relevant. Please include previous creative health or community engagement projects you have delivered.
- Describe how your practice could be used to amplify the voices of young people in Barnsley – feel free to include ideas of how you would work with young people.
- Please include a CV and/or Artist Statement.
- Send examples of your work to us. Ensure that each image is no more than 1MB in size.
- Include links to your artist socials.
Please let us know whether you hold an Enhanced DBS certificate or not. However, it is not essential for this role, as during these sessions, staff from Chilypep, The Youth Association, YMCA and Barnsley Civic will be present.
