But what is going to happen before then? Well, between March and August, our group of young people have been and will continue to meet twice monthly, with their fifth meeting taking place this week. They’ve dug deep into the data and discussed what an arts festival in Barnsley could look like, what kind of message it should have and who they want to reach. With our programming and engagement staff, they have looked at budgets, how their festival can be made accessible and the marketing needed to do that.
They have also had the opportunity to meet artists and theatre companies, such as local graphic designer Chris Printed This and a leading producer of theatre about and for young people, Zest Theatre. They have a lot more work (and play) to do before August, so we promise to stop by for more updates on the project soon.
Towards the end of June, we’ll announce both the name of the festival and the programme. And to give you a hint at what’s involved, we can announce one of the shows.
We are pleased to announced that Zest Theatre’s latest production Soundboard will land in Barnsley for three performances on Saturday 9th August. Soundboard is a brand-new interactive show for outdoor and public spaces. It’s part game show, part panel discussion, part joyful celebration; a mash-up of Question Time (without the arguing and vitriol) and the vibe of Saturday night telly. More details and ticketing info will be released soon.
That’s it for now.
Thank you from Alicja, Belle, Bethany, Cara, Charlotte, Higgy, John, Lily, Lizzie, Penny, Phinn, Romy, Sam, Sofie and Taylor.
