Human Animal is the first major solo exhibition by Barnsley based artist Lucy Dewsnap, also known as Bearsuit. Inspired by the natural world and reflective of their working class background, this exhibition explores a timeless battle of segregation through the eyes of both man and beast.

Through painting, sculpture, and mixed media works, Bearsuit invites us to examine the stark class divisions that arise from a widespread empathy crisis. By intertwining the lives of animals and humans, Bearsuit playfully highlights our interconnectedness and the shared struggles we face amidst an often unforgiving socio-economic landscape.

Human Animal is an exploration of the complexities and contradictions of human existence, offering a unique perspective on our relationship with the natural with a shared desire to break away from ‘domestication’. From symbiotic to parasitic, Bearsuit shines a light on the various types of relationships we have with our animal counterparts and how that impacts us as a species.

Through the lens of Bearsuit’s deeply personal experiences and observations, we are urged to reflect on our own roles in perpetuating or dismantling the systems that divide us.

We'd love to keep in touch!
