The Yorkshire Sculptors Group (YSG), established in 1985, aims to unite sculptors in the Yorkshire region for mutual support and to promote their work through exhibitions and discussions. The group showcases a diverse range of sculptural practices that are relevant to contemporary ideas and critical thinking. YSG regularly exhibit in various venues throughout Yorkshire and beyond.

The exhibition at Barnsley Civic will feature a wide array of media and materials, with each member demonstrating their unique approaches to making art. The exhibition celebrates both the differences and commonalities among the artists, aiming to connect with the audience and a shared humanity.

HERE, THERE AND NOW by The Yorkshire Sculptors Group

11 Apr – 8 Jun 2026

Barnsley Civic Level 0

The subjects explored in the exhibition include the use of electrical waste to create new meanings, the complexities of human relationships, the embodied experience of femininity, the beauty in the mundane, surrealism, memory, trauma, the human condition, physical movement, fragility, strength, control, deconstruction, growth, the dialogue between material and maker, landscape, ecology, wellbeing, space, colour, form, and the reinterpretation of physical spaces. The works also engage with themes such as the interconnections of landscape and human experience, the balance within rocky landscapes, whimsical interactions of cartoon props, biomorphic and absurd forms inspired by living organisms, and the appropriation of found objects to make the familiar seem unfamiliar.

This exhibition aims to celebrate the diversity and creativity of the Yorkshire Sculptors Group while engaging with contemporary themes and ideas.
