Culture, Communities & Climate
As part of Big Green Week, join us for an afternoon of conversation, inspiration and hands‑on activity. We’ll hear from three speakers from the culture and community sectors, sharing positive stories and practical approaches from their work, followed by a collaborative manifesto workshop. This event marks year two of the working partnership between Barnsley Civic and Barnsley Libraries bringing together climate‑conscious artists, facilitators and cultural workers.
The theme of this years Big Green Week is 'Together For Good' and this session will feature:
South Yorkshire Climate Alliance (SYCA) introducing the Repairing Communities Network, a new pilot project working to enable communities across Barnsley to reduce waste, lower living costs, build skills and take practical local action on climate and sustainability, whilst helping to create a sense of community cohesion.
Ruth Wynters, Community, Participation & Volunteering Manager at National Trust speaking about their efforts to increase biodiversity and creative engagement projects at Wentworth Castle Gardens.
Elizabeth Dickinson, Exhibitions Curator at Barnsley Civic, talking about sustainability within the visual arts and exhibitions highlighting environmental issues, as well as some recent successful examples of sustainability initiatives within exhibition making.
