CREATIVE SOCIAL: WOMEN IN PHOTOGRAPHY
Join us for our next Creative Social event, Barnsley's only monthly networking event for artists and creatives. This is a fantastic opportunity for local artists to connect, share their work, and expand their creative networks – no matter what stage of their creative journey they're on. Come together to exchange ideas, resources, and contacts, vent frustrations, share tips, and offer support.
This month’s social is a partnership with the Barnsley Foto Festival for an evening celebrating women in photography.
This year, the British Journal of Photography shared findings from their 2024 research that showed “on average, the women working in the photography industry who took part in the survey earn 30% less than their male counterparts. 55% of the women had experienced gender discrimination in the workplace. Additionally, only 34% of major photography award winners have been women over the past five years.”
Standing as both a celebration of women’s contribution to photography and a call for change on industry gender inequality, we invite everyone to join us for an evening of engaging panel discussions, followed by a social and relaxed sharing of works by local female identifying photographers. We’re delighted to be celebrating the practices of emerging and mid career female artists and holding space for conversation and new friendships.
This event will take place in The Old Art School and whilst we are spotlighting the work of women in photography, attendance is open to any gender. The event is free to attend and a pop-up bar will be available.
