This special concert of live music will highlight five local acts who are all inspired by folk music and storytelling. This is a standing concert in our main theatre. Some seating will be available around the edges of the theatre. While the bar outside the theatre will be open throughout the event, we ask patrons inside the theatre to be respectful of our guest musicians, listen, don’t talk over the music and dance like good’ns.

PASSION KILLERS

Originally formed in Barnsley 1979 as a working-class punk band with vocal harmonies and pop sensibilities, disbanding a few years later, Passion Killers’ members later went on to join the influential Leeds based folk/punk/dance band Chumbwamba.

Decades later, Passion Killers were invited to reform for Rebellion Festival in 2025. They’ve remained true to their roots, even as their sound has evolved into something more akin to folk music. Still driven by the punk spirit, Passion Killers’ story-telling blends grit and heart with every performance.

Their Barnsley Folk Festival set will consist of songs they wrote over 40 years ago as young teens, songs they co-wrote whilst members of Chumbawamba, some choice covers and we’ll also be playing some brand new songs.

PARSON’S LOT

With over a decade of experience, Parson’s Lot and their unique brand of clog-stomping fiddle-driven folk, has established a firm fan base in their home-town of Barnsley and within the folk festival circuit in the North. Looking ahead, we hope to expand our folk family circle to incorporate festivals further afield.

THE ROLLING DOWN HILLS

Psychedelic-Folk-Prog-Rock band The Rolling Down Hills have been a fixture on the local music scene for over twenty years. Originally an acoustic duo, their music has evolved nearly as much as their line-up. Today, you’ll find them a mesmeric melting pot of influences, blending everything from Grunge and Jazz to Brazilian roots and Folk. Barnsley’s best kept secret.

COMMON CULTURE

Common Culture are a rousing, fiddle-driven alternative folk band from Barnsley, England. Fusing traditional and modern influences with three-part harmonies into an upbeat, foot stomping and energetic sound. With their uplifting anthems of empowerment and motivation, the gang’s songs are full of catchy hooks, infectious rhythms and a party spirit.

GABRIELA & ANTONY

Gabriela was born in Buenos Aires and began playing guitar at six. Trained in classical music, she later embraced South American folk music, sharing her culture through performances in her native language, school workshops and festivals. Antony, from Barnsley, met Gabriela in Argentina and is a self-taught bombo legüero player, providing driving folk rhythms for Gabriela’s songs and stories.
