Barnsley Creative Consultation Symposium 2026
We are excited to invite you to join us for Barnsley’s first ever Creative Consultation Symposium and the launch of Barnsley Civic’s new Community Consultation Playbook.
This will be a chance to network with colleagues from across SY and beyond, working at the cutting edge of community consultation and engagement.
The event will provide a space to share ideas, make connections, and think about how meaningful community engagement can support better policy and decision-making, there’ll also be plenty of time for informal discussion over tea and cake and we hope you can join us and be part of the conversation.
This event marks the culmination of an eight-month programme delivered by Barnsley Civic as part of the forthcoming 10-year Pride in Place programme for central Barnsley, commissioned by BMBC and funded by the UK Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
Throughout this diverse and inclusive process, we have worked with a wide range of artists, creatives, and local communities to explore innovative, non-trivial, and creative approaches to consultation and engagement.
The symposium will showcase and share the learning from these pilots and the methodologies explored and you’ll hear short reflections from participants as well as having the chance to see some of the models in action through an exhibition and hands-on demonstrations. We also welcome guest speakers from across the country to talk about their work and the impact in their own communities.
