Barnsley Civic and Photoworks are showcasing the work of the recipients of IN FRAME: The Barnsley Young Photographers Award 2024, in a new exhibition, now open at Barnsley Civic.
The Barnsley Young Photographers Award is committed to the development of artists aged up to 30 years old, living in, studying in, or working in Barnsley.
This year the award was split into three categories:
Emerging Professional – open to early career photographers up to the age of 30.
Student – open to those at college or university, aged 16 – 30.
School – in recognition of the recent emergence of the Photography GCSE, showcasing the photography of young people aged between 11 – 16 in education, alternative provision, or home schooled.
The six awarded artists will all have work featured in the exhibition, which takes place in Barnsley Civic’s new Community Gallery.
Jason White, Barnsley Civic’s Creative Engagement Manager said, “We had a wealth of talented young photographers submit work this year and the addition of an 11 – 16 age group, opened that up even more. We are extremely grateful for the support we’ve had from Photoworks this year, both for the judging of this award and in other artist support projects we have been collaborating on. We’re really excited to be able to showcase an example of each artist’s work in this new exhibition. It’s a perfect first exhibition for our new Panorama Gallery, in the newly opened part of our building.
