CREATIVES SOCIAL: OUR FREEDOM

Creatives Social 'Our Freedom'
Join us for a special Creatives Social exploring what freedom means to our community in 2025 as part of a wider project national project 'Our Freedom: Then and Now' marking 80 years since VE/VJ day.
This session is part of our Young Civilians festival Art Abart Tarn. As always with our Creative Socials, there will be the chance to grab a drink and chat with other artists and creatives. Whether you’re an already practising professional artist or still a student, please come along. We'd love to see as many of you there as possible.
What is 'Our Freedom: Then and Now'
In the wider project, we explore what 'freedom' means through the lens of food, community action and togetherness and we'll be making zines, creating collages, posters and poetry to capture what freedom means in Barnsley in 2025. Cj from Black Lodge Press is the resident artist on the project, who'll be creating a series of textiles banners and zines inspired by the themes that emerge.
We're are also linking up with Barnsley Food Bank and Good Food Pantries with a food donation point at our box office from 1st August, as well as working with local charity Creative Recovery to shape and steer a food sharing event on Sunday 7th Sept to which all participants as well as the wider community will be invited.
For ages 16+. Free entry.
