Barnsley Civic appoints new CEO to lead arts organisation into a new era.
Barnsley Civic is delighted to announce the appointment of Dan Winder as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Dan will officially join the arts organisation in late October, bringing with him a wealth of experience in arts leadership, community engagement, and innovative programming from his current role as CEO and Artistic Director of Stanley Arts in South London.
At Stanley Arts, Dan has been an instrumental figure in transforming the venue into a vibrant platform for both artists and local communities. Under his leadership, Stanley Arts has emerged as a key cultural hub, blending contemporary creativity with heritage, while championing diversity and inclusivity. His dedication to fostering local talent and delivering dynamic programming has firmly established Stanley Arts as a cornerstone of South London’s thriving cultural scene.
Dan’s arrival comes at a pivotal moment for Barnsley Civic, following the reopening of its iconic Eldon Street doors after a £3.5 million redevelopment. With new flexible office space and creative community spaces for events and workshops, Barnsley Civic is embarking on an exciting new chapter in its journey.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dan to Barnsley Civic,” said Carol Cooper-Smith, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
“Dan’s leadership and deep understanding of the arts make him the perfect fit for us at this time of growth and transformation. We are confident that his expertise will drive Barnsley Civic into an inspiring and dynamic future.”
Commenting on his new role, Dan said: “I am delighted to be joining the team at Barnsley Civic as the organisation’s new CEO.
“With the grand reopening of the historic Eldon Street entrance there couldn’t be a better time to be taking on this exciting challenge. For nearly 150 years Barnsley Civic has been the creative heart of Barnsley’s cultural life and I look forward to working with the whole staff team to provide the communities of Barnsley with a place to dream, a place to laugh and cry, a place to speak and be heard, a place to tell the story of all the lives we share. I cannot wait to get started.”
Dan’s appointment marks a significant milestone for Barnsley Civic as it continues to strengthen its role as a leading cultural and creative force within the region.
